SRI LANKA COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS AND HEALTH PROTOCOLS FOR INCOMING OR TRANSITING INDIAN TOURISTS THROUGH SRI LANKA

These requirements are valid for arrivals from 19th August 2021


Only Fully Vaccinated Indians can travel or transit through Sri Lanka

Only ‘Fully Vaccinated’ travelers arriving from India (including transit) are permitted to travel to Sri Lanka and Non-Vaccinated or Partially Vaccinated travelers are not allowed to travel or transit through Sri Lanka, Travellers who completed the 'recommended doses' of COVID-19 vaccination and arriving from India (including transit) and have received their second dose of vaccine prior 14 days of their arrival will be considered as allowed..

Approved Vaccines in Sri Lanka for Tourist

Sri Lanka has approved all the vaccines which are approved in the origin country of the Passenger as their circular says "Any vaccination type accepted by the country of origin is acceptable".. 


Prior to boarding, travelers need to secure some important documents 

A. Have a valid tourist visa before boarding a flight. All visas must be applied online. Visit eta.gov.lk

B. Before applying for a visa, ensure you have the following. 

i. A pre-paid booking at a Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure Certified' hotel for the first 2 Days until the on-arrival PCR test is performed. List of Level-1 Hotels

A pre-paid booking/s at 3 stars or above category hotel/s for the rest of stay. List of 3 Star + Hotels

Hotel booking/s could be made directly with the hotel or through ‘Safe & Secure’ certified travel Agent or OTAs’.

ii. Pay for the mandatory COVID-19 local travel insurance cover at USD 12 for a policy of USD 50,000 up to a period of one month (including children below 2 years).

iii. Pay for the on-arrival PCR test (USD 40 per PCR test). Children below 2 years are exempted from PCR tests. However, if the parents/guardians develop symptoms or result in positive PCR test reports, children will undergo PCR tests.

Pay your COVID 19 Insurance & PCR tests to your Safe and Secure Certified L1 hotel or Safe and Secure Certified travel agent and obtain your tourism reference number required to apply for the visa. 

C. Have a negative PCR test done within 72 hours prior to embarkation (Children below 2 years are exempted). 

D. Airport transfers to be arranged by either the respective Certified Safe & Secure hotel or Certified Safe & Secure travel agent.

At the airport produce the following: 

A. Negative COVID-19 PCR report (English) taken within 72 hours prior to embarkation (All travelers excluding children below 2 years). 

B. Original vaccination certificate/card (together with a certified copy of English language translation if the certificate/card is not in English or if relevant data are not indicated in English). Also for travelers who have recovered from Covid 19 with one vaccination dose to submit a valid document (in English) certifying the information. 

On arrival PCR test & leaving the bio-bubble:

A. On arrival PCR test is performed at your Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure Certified' hotel and upon a negative on arrival PCR test report, travelers can leave the bio-bubble. The respective hotel doctor or Hotel Management will issue a “Discharge Document” upon verifying the status of vaccination and PCR test results.

B. The travelers are required to continue the rest of their stay at 3 stars or above category hotel/s. List of 3 Star Hotels

C. Unvaccinated Children between 2-18 years are allowed to leave the bio-bubble with fully vaccinated parents upon a negative on arrival (Day 1) PCR test.

2nd PCR Test 

A. Fully vaccinated adults who were discharged from Level 1 ‘Safe & Secure Certified' hotel with a negative on arrival (Day 1) COVID-19 PCR report, are exempted from 2nd PCR test.

B. Unvaccinated children of 2-18 years who left the bio-bubble with the fully vaccinated parents and negative on arrival (Day 1) PCR test results, should undergo a COVID-19 PCR test on Day 10 after arriving in Sri Lanka. Ministry of Health approved Private Sector or State Sector Laboratory tests are accepted and the area MOH should be informed of the results immediately by telephone or email. 

C. The respective 3 stars or above category Hotel/Travel Agent is responsible to ensure the travelers perform the 2nd PCR test and submit the results duly.

Is there is any minimum duration of stay in Sri Lanka?

No, and there is no minimum duration of stay in Sri Lanka means you can stay in Sri Lanka for even 1 day or for 30 days, it totally depends on you and your visa category..

Can you use Sri Lanka as a Transit?

Yes, you can use Sri Lanka as a transit if you are fully vaccinated, also you can go to Canada from India via Sri Lanka because it is easy to get your RTPCR test done in Sri Lanka because it is the arrival requirement..
